The range of services performed here at Terrapin Studio are wide, so some won’t be added just yet, but this is where the magic happens and the adventure begins.

Designs created here at Terrapin Studio, whether they are a custom or a standard design, will always be a one of a kind, since no two pieces of glass or wood are alike. Unless I want them to be. Even then, there are no guaranties, since everything has it’s own unique characteristics and charm.

Endless possibilities

Stained glass and its ability to enhance any creation, adding your favorite colors and design to a window or transom, an entrance, hanging or standing room divider, wall unit or cabinetry gives a stunning personal touch that is unmatched.

Repairs – Old & New

There are stunning windows, lamps, panels and even sun catchers that don’t fall into the antique category yet. When repairs are assessed, we’ll be able to see if there would have to be a full restoration caused by heat and age damage, or just repairing accidental damage.

The art of stained glass is the reason for their timeless beauty.

This window is called The Risen Christ who sustained major damage from the sun’s heat and being too large for the space it was in. A full restoration brought it back from eminent collapse.

Bringing Things Back To Life

It is disheartening to see the work of the stained glass masters of the past fall pray to the ravages of time. Being able to preserve their work for future generation to enjoy is priceless and humbling.

Antique Restorations

The restoration of antique windows, lamps and panels is the most rewarding and much needed work to be done in the stained glass art field. Heat, weather and age will soften lead, and warp glass, which is when the real fun begins.

This piece was a full restoration, along with 18 other windows for a full home restoration. Keeping up with contractors at times can put windows in jeopardy when they are either not completely set, or stored at a job site.

Paint & Light

Stained glass was traditionally done with very few colors and paint to control the amount of light passing through the glass. The art of painting on stained glass dates back to the 12 century.

Enhancements

There are many different reasons for painting on glass. Most traditional stained glass windows were painted to depict facial features and the folds of fabric in the robes worn by the figures in the gothic cathedrals of Europe. I could go on for days.

This piece was done late one night, because I had too much paint left over from a memorial window and instead of storing it away, I started playing. The picture from an unknown artist was there on a shelf in the studio,,, just waiting to be reproduced on glass.

Custom Creations

Custom designs are co-created with my clients to create a one of a kind piece especially for them. They will not be reproduced, even for myself, since each design tells their personal story.

Custom Commissions

When thrown an idea or a picture to process through and create a design from,, the joy experienced in the end results are priceless. Even for me. Since painting with light is an ever changing medium, my mind is blown every single time they hit direct sun light.

This was a treasured painting that was reproduced in stained glass and paint. Not sure how, but it was captured better than expected. I like to think I’m in control, but don’t we all.

Classes & Artwork

Student Creations

When classes are given, (hopefully soon) they are individualized to every students abilities. One on one classes are never out of the question. Class sizes are kept small for a reason.

This beauty is called Blue Girl and made by my son-from-another-mother when he was in 6th grade. His parents still don’t believe I only did the eye and nose for him.

If it’s not a design plan from an architect or designer to adhere to, the design is ours and the clients to co-create.

This floating dining room buffet was 13′ from end to end and 28″ in the deepest sections, with Olive Ash Burl and Holly tops, drawers, fascia and bottom bull-nose. Minds blown.

If it is a design brought in to recreate in glass, you will always be involved and nothing is done without approval.

The same goes for repairs. Everything is done to recreate the original piece as closely as possible, since no two pieces of glass are ever the same, the closest matches will be picked and approved..

Antique restorations are done to Historic Preservation standards, whether it is on the registry or not.
